The cheerleading squads of Viewmont and Bountiful high schools received honors at two recent cheerleading contests.
The Viewmont team took the first runner-up title at the National Cheerleading Championships in Anaheim, Calif. The girls also won the overall stunt award and first place in the Varsity All-Girl competition.The squad was awarded $7,000 in scholarships and has been invited to perform at the 27th annual Nike-National Association of Basketball Coaches All-Star Game March 30 in the Seattle Center Coliseum.
The Bountiful cheerleaders recently placed 11th in the All-Girl division at the 10th Annual Universal Cheerleaders Association's National High School Cheerleading Championship in Orlando, Fla.
The squad qualified after competing in one of the 24 regional tournaments last fall.
ESPN will air a one-hour special featuring the top teams from the Orlando competition on Saturday, April 29, at 5 p.m.
