Lattice is:

A. A misspelling of the green vegetable so often used in salads.B. A regional way of pronouncing "let us."

C. A widely used wood moulding for decorative and functional home improvements.

If you answered C, says the Wood Moulding and Millwork Producers Association, you may already be aware of the many uses that lattice has around the home.

Outdoors, it can be used as a trellis for climbing vines or flowers or as a wind screen for a patio deck. Indoors, its uses range from decorative accents for walls and furnishings to screens and room dividers.

Among the more popular patterns that can be made from lattice are horizontal and vertical crosshatch and diagonal crosshatch, as well as diamond, herringbone, horizontal and vertical.

Lattice comes in three to 16-foot lengths. Measure and miter carefully to avoid excessive waste. Then glue and nail the lattice in place before staining or painting it to match or contrast with the decor.
