Utah federal Judge David Winder has fined an Ogden man $2,100 for his role in a $1.5 million telemarketing scheme that sold bogus coupons for vacations and other merchandise.

Ron Lengacher had submitted an Alford plea to two fraud counts. Under the plea, Lengacher did not admit guilt, but he could have been sentenced as if he were convicted on the allegations.Lengacher was among five defendants charged in a July 1988 Utah federal grand jury indictment with 35 counts of fraud. The men operated Commercial Research International, International Travel Council and Rainbow's End travel promotion companies.
