A man who last month pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an accident that left an Orem boy dead has been sentenced to 60 days in jail and fined $375.

Jaime Uribe Villarreal, 20, who was living in Pleasant Grove when the accident occurred last Sept. 11, will be allowed to serve 30 days of his jail time in community service.Villarreal originally was charged with automobile homicide, a third-degree felony. The charge was reduced to leaving the scene of a personal-injury accident, a Class A misdemeanor, after he agreed to surrender to Orem police Feb. 5.

Police said Villarreal apparently fled to Mexico following the accident, which claimed the life of 5-year-old Scott Sterling Farmer. The child was struck and killed by a pickup truck near Fourth South and Fifth East. Police later found the truck abandoned.
