Dave Arslanian, named Weber State head football coach nine days ago, picked four assistant coaches Friday, including two former Wildcat players.

The new assistants are: administrative coordinator Mark Gorscak, who also will coach tight ends and special teams; defensive line coach Robb Akey; offensive line coach Lawrence Livingston; and wide receivers coach Darryl Mason."I'm very pleased pleased and excited about getting staff together so quickly and getting good, quality coaches," said Arslanian, who was named head coach March 15 after serving 8 years as a Weber State assistant.

He succeeded Mike Price, who was named head coach at Washington State.

Arslanian said he expects to fill the remaining two defensive coaching positions on his staff next week.

Akey, 23, was an All-Big Sky Conference defensive end at Weber State in 1987 and served as a graduate assistant last season.

Gorscak, 32, was a part-time Wildcat coach last season and coordinated team travel. He was Weber State director of football promotions and marketing during the 1986-87 academic year and served as general manager of the Arena Football League Pittsburgh Gladiators in 1987.

Livingston, 28, played center, guard and tackle at Weber State from 1979 to 1983, and was a Wildcat graduate assistant and part-time coach from 1984 to 1986. He spent last season at West Point, N.Y., as head coach of the Army junior varsity.

Mason, 29, comes to Weber after two years at Southwest Missouri State where he coached wide receivers and tight ends. He was a three-year starting tight end at Arkansas and was an All-Southwest Conference pick in 1981. He played one season with the NFL Atlanta Falcons and four years in the now-defunct U.S. Football league, two each with the Birmingham Stallions and Arizona Outlaws.
