Several hundred people take part in the Good Friday procession, sponsored by the Central Salt Lake City Council of Churches. The group stopped for brief services at several other downtown churches, concluding at the Cathedral of the Madeleine. The Rev. M. Francis Manion, rector of the Cathedral of the Madeleine, said the procession is a "public ecumenical witness to faith in Jesus Christ, risen from the dead." Such processions "are pretty standard throughout the rest of the world." The Rev. William F. Maxwell, dean of the Cathedral Church of St. Mark, Episcopal Church, noted that Good Friday is "one Christian holy day which has not taken on the trappings of a secular holiday."
