The former secretary for the Layton police chief on Wednesday waived a preliminary hearing in circuit court on misuse of public money charges and was bound over to 2nd District Court for trial.

Virginia Johnson, 33, West Valley City, is charged with a third-degree felony. She waived a preliminary hearing on the charge in Bountiful's 2nd Circuit Court.Investigators have indicated between $7,000 and $10,000 in money posted with the police department as bail by arrestees was not turned over to Layton 2nd Circuit Court clerks last year.

The case was transferred to the Bountiful Circuit Court because of Johnson's connection with both the Layton and Clearfield circuit courts, according to prosecutor Brian Namba.

Johnson resigned from her job as Chief Doyle Talbot's secretary in August and also quit a part-time job as a dispatcher for the Roy Fire Department at the same time.
