Leftist guerrillas raided two government copper mines in the Andes, killing five people and blowing up a barracks and offices, police said Friday.

Miners have announced plans for a three-day nationwide strike to begin Monday, but the official gazette El Peruano said Friday it was illegal.Unions want all contracts for Peru's 70,000 miners to be negotiated jointly rather than with individual companies, as is the practice now. Two strikes on the same issue failed last year.
