The education minister ordered a traffic safety program in schools Friday after an 11-year-old boy died playing a daredevil "game" in highway traffic, Israel radio reported.

Baruch Oren died last week after jumping in front of a speeding car along the busy Tel Aviv-Haifa highway and trying to force it to stop at the last moment, the radio said. The "game" is a new fad among elementary and high school students, who also have been known to throw balls and school bags on roads and try to snatch them from in front of speeding cars. High school students believe such reckless deeds toughen them before army service, the radio said.
