Premier Turgut Ozal said he may quit if opposition parties make strong gains in Sunday's nationwide local elections.

"If many want to see Suleyman Bey back in power, or Erdal Bey in power, we will say, `OK, come take over,' " Ozal said Friday, referring to former Premier Suleyman Demirel and opposition leader Erdal Inonu."I am not glued to the (premier's) chair, let whoever wants come run the country," he said at a news conference.

Turks on Sunday will elect mayors, provincial assembly members, city councilors, neighborhood representatives and village headmen.
