The Hercules Aerospace Bacchus Works' role in the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's solid propulsion integrity program has been expanded to propellant/insulator/case bondlines.

NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center, Huntsville, Ala., has selected Hercules Missiles, Ordnance & Space Group to perform a study aimed at developing an engineering technology base to improve this vital part of solid fuel rocket motors.The objective of SPIP is to increase the success rate of solid fuel rocket motors by improving basic engineering capability in such areas as material characteristics, design analysis, fabrication and assembly processes and production evaluation and verification, company officials said.
