The Multiple Sclerosis Society announced Thursday it will sever its relationship with Boston Red Sox slugger Wade Boggs, who serves as an honorary chairman, because of publicity about his troubles with a former mistress.

The director of the state chapter of the MS Society said it regretfully decided to disassociate itself from Boggs, whose older sister suffers from MS and who is serving his third year as honorary chairman of the MS Read-a-thon, a fund-raising campaign, the Boston Herald reported Friday.
