A Salt Lake County youth accused of murdering the son of a Hollywood actress will be held in jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
John Tavo Leota, 18, is charged in the death of Malik Smith, 18, the son of actress Beverly Todd and producer Kris Kaiser.On Wednesday, 3rd Circuit Judge Philip Palmer refused to lower the bail, agreeing with prosecutor Kent Morgan that Leota is a flight risk and a danger to the community.
Leota is accused of punching Smith during an argument at a West Valley disco. Smith was knocked to the ground and struck his head on the floor, according to the charges. Smith died two days later.
