The Governor's Black Advisory Council has formed a committee to spearhead efforts to increase a scholarship fund that will be used to help students seeking college educations.

The council has about $1,500 available and would like to see that amount increase substantially prior to awarding the scholarships in June. The committee will work with both individuals and local businesses in an attempt to solicit contributions to the fund. The committee will also work with other organizations that offer scholarships to determine whether the groups can unite on one specific award for a full-ride scholarship for a deserving student. The council hopes to send out applications within the next few weeks with a deadline for their return tentatively scheduled for the end of April.
