Utah parents can expect that their children will be treated with love and respect, have their safety protected and their self-esteem fostered in their schools, the state PTA president says.

Darlene Gubler, in a National Teacher Week salute to teachers, said Utah's educators face "some extremely tough assignments." Many of them have large classes and lack parental support, she said. At the same time, they are entrusted with children's minds."But our teachers push on, they get the job done and they're an extremely valuable asset to our children," Gubler said.

Utah's 17,000 teachers are responsible for the learning that takes place in hundreds of classrooms. They are entitled to encouragement and appreciation, Gubler said.
