The mountains were coated with more snow, and light rain washed northern Utah valleys Wednesday.

Five inches of snow had fallen by early morning at Powder Mountain, two inches at Snow Basin and an inch in Little Cottonwood Canyon, said William J. Alder, meteorologist in charge of the Salt Lake office of the National Weather Service. While clouds hung over the Salt Lake Valley early Wednesday, skies were expected to clear by afternoon and be just partly cloudy Thursday and Friday. Increasing south winds and clouds are forecast for Saturday with the snow level dropping to bench areas on Sunday.
