A young Panguitch man was killed Tuesday afternoon while apparently trying to repair the hydraulic system on his tractor.
Garfield County Sheriff Robert Judd said the body of David Russell Hatch, 29, was discovered about mid-afternoon by his wife, Sheri Lee, who drove to a field with her children when her husband failed to return home for lunch.Judd, whose office was dispatched to the scene about 5 p.m., said it appeared Hatch had experienced problems with the tractor's hydraulic system, which regulates plows and other equipment.
The man was apparently trying to repair a ruptured hose. His head became caught in the equipment when it was activated.
Judd said he hasn't talked with any witnesses, but there is a possibility someone may have seen Hatch plowing in the field shortly before the accident occurred.
Hatch was transported to Garfield Memorial Hospital, Panguitch, where he was dead on arrival.
