Thirty anti-nuclear protesters were cited for trespassing at the Nevada Test Site Tuesday in an escalation of demonstrations during the week preceding Easter, known as Holy Week.

Forty-five demonstrators carried signs and sang as 30 of the protesters deliberately stepped onto test site property, Department of Energy spokesman Jim Boyer said. No violence was reported. Those charged with trespassing were handcuffed, placed in a holding area about 100 feet away until the citations were written, then released, Boyer said. Demonstrators cited for simple trespassing are not required to make court appearances.
