Winners of the annual Reading Is FUNdamental, "In Celebration of Reading" contest will receive awards during the Salt Lake City Council meeting Tuesday.

In the contest sponsored by Friends of the Salt Lake City Public Library, students in participating Salt Lake schools agree to read or are read to for a specified period of time. The children's names are then entered in a random drawing to represent their school.This year's winners are:

Heidi Gustavson, 8, second grade, Parkview Elementary.

Jennifer L. Pollom, 9, fourth grade, Highland Park Elementary.

Aaron Smart, 7, second grade, Riley Elementary.

Victoria Rendon, 7, first grade, Guadalupe Center.

Anabell Martinez, 8, third grade, Franklin Elementary.

Toni Smith, 10, fifth grade, Edison Elementary.

Paige Sulimowicz, 5, kindergarten, Jackson Elementary.

The RIF program motivates children to read by giving them inexpensive new paperback books to keep, letting them make their own selections.
