Rep. Ted D. Lewis, D-Salt Lake, found it is possible to erase a few years when he relived his junior high days at Northwest Intermediate School Wednesday. Principal Jim McCoy invited local politicians, state education and school district officials to celebrate National Middle Level Education Week by going to class with the school's 800 students. So the dignitaries brushed up on their English, math and history. Utah has 115 intermediate and junior high schools, but McCoy calls middle school the "forgotten educational level," saying it's often lumped together with either high school or elementary school. He scheduled the day to raise awareness about the educational needs of adolescents.
