Campers won't find any campgrounds open during the Easter weekend in the Uinta National Forest.
Spokeswoman Loyal Clark said, "We still have a foot of snow in the lower elevation campgrounds such as Hobble Creek and Diamond Fork. As a result, we will not be able to open any campgrounds for the Easter weekend." The Alpine Loop and Nebo Scenic Loop will remain closed until the snowpack has melted off the road. Some recreation sites on the Heber Ranger District will be opened and accessible. Whiskey Springs Picnic Area, located in Daniels Canyon, will be available for picnickers. The road and parking lot at Strawberry Bay Marina will be open for access to Strawberry Reservoir. The road to Currant Creek Reservoir is plowed and open, but parking is limited.
Recreationists who plan to undertake winter activities should check weather and ice conditions in advance. "The ice is rapidly melting and ice fishermen are asked to be extremely cautious. With spring conditions upon us, the weather can change quickly. Recreationists should be prepared for unstable weather."
Campers can make reservations for the summer now through Mistix, particularly for single family camping. The toll free number is 1-800-284-2267.
