A west-side schoolteacher became the first official Salt Lake City Council candidate Friday, registering as a candidate for the District 1 seat now occupied by Councilwoman Florence Bittner.
Michael Nemelka, 48, a schoolteacher for the Davis County School District, will face Bittner, who says she will seek her second term on the council, in primary elections scheduled for Oct. 3. Municipal elections will be Nov. 7."I guess it's time for Florence Bittner to have a little rest," he said. "I don't think she's been doing anything for the people down here."
