The Salt Lake County sheriff's office is accepting applications for deputy sheriffs, Sheriff Pete Hayward says.

Those seeking positions must be at least 20 years old to take the written exam and 21 to become a deputy, have a high school diploma, reside in Salt Lake County when employed, have a Utah driver's license and good driving record and be a U.S. citizen.Applicants must pass written, oral and physical tests and a background check. After being hired, the deputies must be certified by Utah Peace Officers Standards and Training academy.

Applications can be picked up at the sheriff's office and must be turned in by March 27 to the Salt Lake County Deputy Sheriff's Merit Service Commission, 2001 S. State St., #N4600, Salt Lake City, Utah, 84190-3150.
