The Judge Memorial Bulldogs put up a defense the team from Marian Christian couldn't penetrate Thursday, and rolled to a 85-79 win in the opening round of the Alhambra Catholic Invitational.

The Bulldogs started off falling behind the Colts, 19-6, midway through the first quarter, but set up a defensive wall that brought them the lead, 22-21, at the end of the quarter.Judge was led in scoring by Jimmy Soto with 29 points and Chris Jones with 28. The Colts were led by Afis Olajuwon, the younger brother of Houston Rockets center Akeem Olajuwon, who had 28 points and 18 rebounds.

The score was tied several times in the second half. Judge was able to pull ahead in the final minutes by hitting eight of their last nine free throws.

The Bulldogs will face the winner of the Archbishop Carroll-Father Judge game Friday at 6:30 p.m. MST.
