The University of Utah's Intermountain Regional Poison Control Center is joining in a National Poison Prevention Week beginning today.

Center director Joseph Veltri said the facility handles more than 100 calls daily and more than 70 percent of those calls concern accidental poisonings of children under 6.The No. 1 poison threat, Veltri said, is not poison but medicines that adults don't properly secure from youngsters.

The theme of the prevention week is "Curious Minds Plus Busy Hands Equal Potential Poisoning."
