Charles R. Duke, head of the Department of Secondary Education at Utah State University, has been asked to serve on the national Commission on Preparation of English and Language Arts Teachers.

Duke will be chairman of the subcommittee on transition to teaching, a group charged with finding solutions to problems facing English and language arts educators as they prepare future teachers.His group will explore the experiences first-, second- and third-year teachers should have and the kinds of support they need to be effective teachers.

The commission is supported by the Council on English Education, a branch of the National Council of Teachers of English.
