Price Savers, the Salt Lake County-based wholesale warehouse at 3280 S. Ninth West, will celebrate its fifth anniversary Friday at 11 a.m. by giving away hot dogs, soft drinks and birthday cake to the first 2,500 members. Balloons will be given to children.
Tom Grimm, founder and president, said he remembered March 17, 1984, when the business opened with 40,000 original members who qualified through affiliated organizations. It snowed 10 inches that weekend and people parked seven blocks away "just to check us out."Now, the warehouse has 33,000 business members and 400,000 individual members.
Grimm attributes the company's success to delivering honest value and listening to the needs of members. Buyers negotiate with leading brand name manufacturers to pass along the saving to Price Savers' business customers, he said.
Price Savers now has 13 warehouses in Utah, California, Washington, Alaska and Arizona. Three additional warehouses are projected for 1989 openings in Sacramento and San Diego, Calif.
