A 36-year-old insurance agent has pleaded guilty to charges he embezzled $122,374.81 by selling phony policies.

The Utah attorney general's office issued a statement Wednesday saying Patrick Charles Manis, Delta, Millard County, apparently sold auto, accident and life insurance policies and deposited the premiums in two Delta banks. Manis worked for Leavitt Insurance Co.Manis admitted he also raised the premiums on accounts without notifying his company and that he kept the extra money. He pleaded guilty to two second-degree felony theft charges and is scheduled to be sentenced April 12 in 4th Circuit Court in Fillmore.

The phony premiums were sold between 1984 and 1988.
