Go Vacations, a $63 million Toronto-based company that operates motor-home and yacht vacations throughout North America and the Caribbean, will open a rental "station" April 1 in Salt Lake City.

Jamie Leith, regional operations manager, said Go Vacations brought some 32,000 tourists, mostly Europeans, into the United States and Canada last year and a number of these will be coming to Utah this summer via the company's luxury motor homes.Along with new stations in Seattle and Los Angeles, Go Vacations will have operations in seven states and five Canadian provinces in operation this spring, said Leith.

The company has signed a five-year lease and is currently remodeling a 12,500 square-foot facility at 4460 S. 5th West where five employees will handle rentals of some 35 vans and motor homes. Judy Keane, an agent with Commerce Properties commercial real estate firm, handled the deal.

Leith said the company expects strong future growth for its operation here.

"We are extremely optimistic about our future in Utah," he said. "This state has enormous scenic attractions which are unique, especially to European visitors, and it is also the gateway to parks and recreation in neighboring states."

Go Vacations builds its own motor homes in five sizes and configurations, accommodating two to six adults on one-way or round-trip rentals. Rates range from $19 daily for the smallest van during the off season to $96 daily for the largest motor home in peak season. Leith said rents also vary according to insurance, preparation fees and package rates, among others.
