Nominations are being sought for the new Reed Smoot Citizenship Awards to recognize outstanding service by people who live or work in Provo.

Steve Densley, president of the Provo/Orem Chamber of Commerce, said the program will be a counterpart to the Arthur V. Watkins Outstanding Citizen Awards, also sponsored by the chamber, to honor people who work or live in Orem."The Reed Smoot Awards, appropriately named in recognition of the accomplishments of former U.S. Senator Reed Smoot of Provo, will be presented at a gala banquet April 20 in Provo," Densley said.

In addition, the Reed Smoot Special Citizenship Awards will be given for: Youth of the Year (age 14 to 18), Business Person of the Year, Senior Citizen of the Year (55 and older) and Outstanding Service.

Nomination forms are available at the chamber office, 777 S. State, Orem, and the office of Piper, Jaffray and Hopwood Inc., 1 E. Center St., Provo.

The recipients will be honored at a banquet April 20 at 6:30 p.m. in the Wilkinson Center Memorial Lounge at Brigham Young University. Reservations can be made by calling the chamber, 224-3636.
