A Salt Lake County man has been charged with manslaughter in the death of his mother-in-law, who died of injuries suffered in a family fight.
Eugene Pearce, 66, is accused of hitting his mother-in-law, Elizabeth Warren, 86, during a dispute Feb. 4 at 3181 S. 8950 West, according to a criminal complaint filed Monday in 3rd Circuit Court.A neighbor came to the house after Pearce called to say, "I have just killed my mother-in-law," according to the complaint.
The neighbor found Warren incoherent and Pearce with a kitchen knife embedded in his abdomen. Pearce allegedly told the neighbor he stabbed himself in remorse for having assaulted Warren, the complaint states.
Warren, who suffered wounds above the right eye and right ear, died March 3 of "bronchial pneumonia due to complications of cranial cerebral hemmorhage sustained in the assault," according to the complaint.
