The Army has identified the bodies of two Utah Navy pilots missing from the Vietnam War for more than 20 years.
They are:- Cmdr. Gene A. Smith of the Navy, born April 18, 1933, lost over North Vietnam June 27, 1966. His home of record was listed as Salt Lake City.
- Lt. Cmdr. Michael W. Wallace of the Navy, born Sept. 12, 1936, lost over Laos March 28, 1968. His home of record was also listed as Salt Lake City.
The Pentagon said Wallace's remains were recovered during a joint excavation at an air crash site in Savannakhet Province of southern Laos, and Smith's body was among 38 repatriated by the Vietnamese on Dec. 15.
