Airports were on alert Thursday to prevent Ferdinand Marcos from returning to the Philippines for the funeral of the ousted president's mother.

President Corazon Aquino cited national security in barring Marcos, exiled in Hawaii, from attending the funeral of Josefa Edralin-Marcos, 95, who died Wednesday.Aquino Thursday was asked about a statement by Marcos that he would "exhaust all possibilities" to attend his mother's funeral.

"I suppose we'll have to wait for him to exhaust all those measures, but I stand firm on my decision not to allow him to come back," Aquino said.
