The Western Athletic Conference basketball tournament, which concluded in Salt Lake City last week, has run up a deficit, University of New Mexico athletic director Gary Ness said.

"There will be a shortfall. We won't know how much until probably May," Ness said. "I don't know how many more of these we can afford."The tournament drew no more than 7,200 fans to any of the games, and only 5,508 showed up to watch hometown Utah play SDSU.
