One was fired. The other is leaving for a big-time college post.

Neither University of Utah basketball coach Lynn Archibald nor Weber State football coach and athletic director Mike Price will be back next season.Archibald, whose team was favored to win the Western Athletic Conference this year but finished a disappointing 6-10 in conference play and 16-17 overall, was fired Monday afternoon by U. athletic director Chris Hill.

Price, who applied for the head coaching position at Washington State University two years ago and was beaten out by longtime friend Dennis Erickson, got it this time. It became official at a news conference in Pullman, Wash., Tuesday morning.

Hill said Archibald was let go not for "one particular reason. A lot of things added up." A change was made, Hill said, because it's "in the best interest of the basketball program." Archibald had one year to go on his contract, and Hill said it would be honored.

A search is under way for his replacement. Hill has said he'll take as long as needed to get the right coach.

Price is going home. He is a native of Everett, Wash., and played quarterback at Everett High School and later at Everett Community College where he shared duties with Jim Livengood, who is Washington State's athletic director.

Price is expected to be replaced by Weber State assistant coach Dave Arslanian.
