-April 1 is the deadline for audition tapes in the fourth annual chamber-music competition of the Chamber Music Society of Salt Lake City.
Tapes, containing two excerpts from contrasting works totaling around 15 minutes, should be submitted to Robert F. Moseley, 1027 E. South Temple, Salt Lake City, UT 84102.The competition is open to all instrumentalists under 30 years of age in groups of two or more. From the audition tapes, finalists will be selected to compete for a prize of $100 per person by performing a complete work at the society's annual meeting on May 7.

-The fourth Arlette Day Piano Competition will be held May 6 at Murray High School, 5440 S. State. Preliminary rounds will take place from 9 a.m. to noon, semifinals from 2 to 3 p.m. and the finals from 7 to 9 p.m. Each participant will receive gifts with other awards and prizes to follow the final round.
In addition 36 performers will be selected to play on recital programs June 16, 17 and 19 at Day Murray Music, 4914 S. State.
The competition will be conducted in five categories, from 10 years or younger to 17 or older. Each contestant will be expected to perform from memory one or two compositions (maximum 5 minutes) from any two periods.
