BYU's men's golf team, coming off a two-week rest, shot a dissapionting 304 to finish the first day of the first annual Golf Digest Invitational in Houston 17 strokes behind the leader Clemson. Clemson shot a 287 to take a one stroke lead over Oklahoma State and Texas who have a three stroke lead over Arizona State.
Mike Weir, who was a medalist finisher in the Pan American tournament, and Jeff Kraemer led the Cougar golfers by shooting an opening round 75. Ramon Brobio and Rafael Ponce both shot a 77. Roberta Herrera finished with a 79.The Golf Digest Invitational is a 54-hole tournament with 12 of the top 15 teams in the country competing.
