BYU split a pair of baseball games Saturday in the Icebreaker Tournament, losing 3-2 to Grand Canyon College and defeating the University of Utah, 11-9.
The loss to Grand Canyon was BYU's third loss of the tournament, all of which came against the Antelopes. The Cougars stranded runners on base in each of the six innings for a total of nine in the game called because of the two-hour time limit.Against Utah, Cougar freshman Eric Smith and sophomore David Nash kept the Utes at bay from the mound. BYU's Randy Wilstead had a double and a triple against Utah, while teammate Paul Cluff had four of the Cougars' nine runs batted in.
BYU now has a 7-4 overall record and finished the tourney with a 3-3 record. The next game for BYU is Friday when it meets Regis College and Southern Utah State at Cedar City.
