The BYU men's gymnastics team lost a nail-biter against the Iowa State Cyclones Saturday night, 259.55-259.3, to drop its record to 2-7.

The Cyclones are 2-3.Despite Rex Hughes' first-place, season-best finish in the all-around with 55.55 and fellow Cougar Per Brandstrom's second in the all-around (53.75), the Cyclones hung on to win the dual meet. Hughes won four events - vault (9.4), rings (9.45), high bar (9.6) and parallel bars (9.2).

Jason Brown of BYU placed third in the high bar with a score of 9.3.

BYU Coach Makoto Sakamoto said, "We lost it on the floor. We were pretty much even on everything else."

BYU's next home meet will be March 11 against Arizona State.

The Western Athletic Championships will be held in Provo March 17-18.
