The Utah State Hospital at Provo has again declared Ronald Hinkley, 40, competent to stand trial on felony charges of sexual exploitation of a minor, aggravated sexual abuse and sodomy of a minor.

Hinkley was arrested Dec. 1, 1987, after photographs of nude and seminude children he submitted to a Utah State University art class were turned over to police by his instructor.Trial was delayed after defense attorney Ron Yengich asked for a psychiatric evaluation. After the State Hospital declared Hinkley competent, Yengich requested and received approval for a second evaluation. On Nov. 22, two Salt Lake psychologists testified they had diagnosed Hinkley as having chronic paranoid schizophrenia.

Judge VeNoy Christoffersen ordered Hinkley committed to the state hospital until sufficiently recovered to stand trial.
