Third District Judge Pat B. Brian of Salt Lake City has been appointed to preside over the capital murder trial of Steven Ray James, Logan, who is accused of murdering his 3-month-old son.
The appointment was made by Utah Supreme Court Justice Gordon Hall. The trial will take place in a federal courtroom in Ogden.James, 37, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Steven Roy James.
The father reported that the infant had been kidnapped from his car outside a pharmacy in Logan on Aug. 26, 1986.
James rallied the support of Logan and Cache County residents to help find his son, and hundreds of volunteers made posters and searched for the boy.
The boy's body was found in the Bear River seven weeks after he was reported missing.
Last week, 2nd District Judge David Roth ordered that the trial be moved out of Logan because of pretrial publicity.
