Two "very interesting" names have been added to Washington State University's short list of candidates for the vacant head football coaching job, Athletic Director Jim Livengood says.

Livengood said he hoped to have his list of potential candidates completed by Saturday night and that an announcement concerning the new coach could come "very, very early next week," possibly as early as Sunday. The two new candidates, both from NCAA Division I schools in the West, expressed interest through other parties in being considered for the job vacated by Dennis Erickson, Livengood told the Spokesman-Review newspaper Friday before leaving the Pacific-10 Conference basketball tournament at Los Angeles.

Livengood refused to name the candidates because "both individuals stressed very, very hard that they can't be talked about."

Livengood, who has said he had eight or nine candidates in mind, said the coaches' interest was expressed "indirectly," and that he was not sure how serious they are.

Interviewed by Livengood were Weber State head coach and athletic director Mike Price; University of Southern California assistant Ray Dorr; and former Dallas Cowboy NFL assistant Paul Hackett. They were interviewed by Livengood and other Washington State officials in Seattle.

Washington assistant coach and former Idaho head coach Keith Gilbertson reiterated Friday that he is not a candidate.
