Dr. Benjamin Cox, director of advanced technology in the Communication Systems Division of Unisys in Salt Lake City, has been named a Unisys fellow, the most prestigious award offered by the company, according to W. M. Blumenthal, chairman and chief executive officer.

The fellow program recognizes an employee who has made exceptional technical contributions to the company. They serve for four years and complete individualized projects mutually agreed upon by Cox and his executive group. Cox has been involved in the research of data, image and speech compression applied to communication systems.He is a member of the technical staff and is an adjunct professor in the University of Utah Department of Electrical Engineering and recently was awarded the first Governor's Medal for Science and Technology.

For his contributions in the development of certain communication techniques, he has been awarded one patent and four others are pending. Recently, two of his data compression contracts with the U. of U. culminated in compression techniques and systems that have received national attention.
