Four University of Arizona football players were jailed overnight for investigation of alleged misdemeanor assaults of a racial nature, authorities said today. Police said the four freshmen, all black, allegedly sought out white victims walking alone, accused them of racial slurs and assaulted each.

Tucson police arrested Michael Bundy, a 6-foot-4, 255-pound lineman from Tempe, who faced a city court appearance. Sean Hutson, a receiver from Sacramento, Calif.; defensive back Samuel Edwards of Tarzana, Calif.; and Jeffrey King, identified by Tomey as a walkon, each faced initial appearances before a Justice Court judge, each cited with three misdemeanors.
