An elderly woman was killed and nine people, mostly children, were injured in separate accidents Saturday, Salt Lake County sheriff's officials said.

A 75-year-old woman, whose name was not released, was dead on arrival at Pioneer Valley Hospital with injuries suffered in a 2:27 p.m. accident, said Sheriff's Lt. Lee Smith. The victim was a passenger in a vehicle involved in a three-car pileup at 47th South and 47th West.In a separate three-car accident, a girl was critically injured and eight others hurt at 3535 W. 62nd South, Smith said.

A station wagon traveling east on 62nd South ran into a car that was stopped to make a left turn, the lieutenant said. The station wagon pushed the second car into traffic. The car that was pushed into traffic was then struck by another vehicle. The accident occurred about 7:30 p.m.
