A 72-year-old Cedar City man was killed Saturday when the compact car he was driving strayed off SR 10, hit a boulder, became airborne and rolled, the Utah Highway Patrol said.

The 1:40 p.m. accident just north of the junction of I-70 and 10 miles south of Emery claimed the life of Joseph B. Anderson, said UHP Trooper Ken Betterton."My investigation indicates he either nodded off or fell asleep," said Betterton.

The car went off the right side of the highway, struck a boulder and sailed through the air about 100 feet before striking the ground and rolling 1 1/2 times, pinning the driver, who was partially ejected, he said.

There were no passengers in the vehicle.
