Two Los Angeles men were sentenced Friday to up to five years in prison on their guilty pleas to possession with intent to distribute 35.2 pounds of cocaine.

Sixth District Judge Don Tibbs also ordered Juan Hurtado Meza, 32, and Eduardo Fragoso, 25, to pay $5,000 each in fines.Prosecutors said the cocaine discovered in their vehicle last year was worth at least $3 million.

The defendants were arrested Dec. 14, 1988, near Elsinore, Sevier County, about 170 miles south of Salt Lake City.

They had contacted the Sevier County Sheriff's Office requesting help in starting their stalled auto. A deputy said he became suspicious when he noticed paint over some screws in the vehicle door and asked to search the car. The deputy said he then discovered 16 kilograms of cocaine hidden inside the door.

Meza and Fragoso pleaded guilty Jan. 25.
