Eight children ranging in age from 9 months to 11 years, were removed from a Sandy trailer home, Thursday and placed into protective custody because of filth and unhealthy living conditions.

Sandy Police Det. Warren Jeffery said police went to the home at 88th S. State, which has been jointly occupied by two families, after being notified by the state Division of Family Services."There was raw sewage backed up in a toilet and the bathroom sink also was plugged with human feces," said Jeffery.

He said dirty clothes filled the home, and spoiled food was on the floor.

A spare tire was being used to keep the front door shut.

The children were alone when police arrived.

Three adults who lived at the home told police they were stranded with car problems in Salt Lake and had not been able to get home.

No criminal charges are planned at this time, Jeffery said.
