Attempts to overturn the base closing plan that would shut down much of Fort Douglas have been rejected by the House Armed Services Installations Subcommittee.

Rep. Jim Hansen, R-Utah, a committee member, said he found it amusing that some of the members trying to stop base closings in their districts were "liberal anti-defense."The committee's action, he said, sends a message that"Congress as a whole is willing to put aside parochial interests and do what's best for the country."

Hansen said he expects the full Armed Services Committee to reject the same effort next week.
