A geologist photographs a cottage sliding into the Atlantic Ocean on Friday in Nags Head, N.C., one of up to 70 cottages and motels destroyed during several days of battering by waves and gusting winds. The cottage's owner was arrested for crossing police lines in a last-minute attempt to save his furniture. Abundant rain and winds also were reported Saturday over parts of the central Pacific Coast, and a high wind warning was in effect for western Nevada.
